Good hair defines your overall appearance! While short hair can have a tremendous boost on your confidence, at times, the opposite can be true. Dealing with haircut regrets is a situation you wouldn’t want to find yourself in. However, if your hair is on the shorter side, perhaps due to a recent cut or accidental damage, there are an array of hair extension options for you to choose from that will produce smooth and subtle results where the extensions go undetected.
While blending in hair extensions can be challenging, there are various methods for a seamless hair transition from short to long. This way, you can enjoy showing off both styles- short hair and long hair – without the worry of a long-term commitment.
What exactly are Hair Extensions?
The additional extension hair adds length and thickness to natural human hair and is also known as artificial hair integrations. Extensions, which incorporate additional human hair or synthetic hair, can either be glued, sewed or clipped onto natural hair. Although most extensions are 100% human hair, it doesn’t mean they are all limited to this particular kind. Synthetic extensions do not contain human hair and are manufactured from various synthetic or blended fibres. They are a lot cheaper to buy and don’t last as long as real human hair so we always recommend going for 100% human hair extensions.
Human hair, on the other hand, is just like it sounds, purely 100% human with no additives and is sourced from a donor. We only use Beauty Works 100% human hair at Angel Hair Extensions.
From colour, style and quality, to the application, both real and synthetic hair comes in varied forms. The quality of synthetic fibres can be quite stiff and not as flawless as human hair. Sometimes, they can have a wiry texture or coarse feel. Hence, it doesn’t always blend perfectly with your natural short hair. Human hair, however, blends very well with your hair since it has all the properties of real hair.
Types of Hair Extensions
Clip-in Hair Extensions
Arguably, clip-ins are the easiest extensions to apply for beginners with short hair. These extensions call for a minimum hair length of 3 inches(7cm) to cover the clip base and securely attach the clips. Clip-ins are the most inexpensive options to go for on the market. While the first few times can prove tedious to apply, clip-ins are generally straightforward and add a beautiful mound of hair that blends almost entirely with your natural hair.
Micro Ring Hair Extensions
Angel Hair Extensions Micro ring hair extensions require a minimum length of 4 inches (10cm) for the rings to be entirely covered. Though they can still work on shorter hair, the rings might easily show, and the ring extensions will look more unnatural on shorter hair, especially during windy weather.
Hair Weaves
The minimum requirement for weave extensions to be correctly sewn in is past shoulder length. It is, however, not the best option for short hair as it can be easily noticed; therefore it’s safer to wait for the hair to grow a bit longer when going for this type. We find the longer the client’s hair the better for the Weave to blend naturally.
Tape-in Hair Extensions
At Angel Hair Extensions, our tape hair extensions are glued close to the hair’s roots using adhesive tape and require a minimum hair length of 3 inches (7cm). The tape is relatively smaller than clips hence needs slightly shorter hair to attach all in place. Tape extensions can also be trimmed into smaller pieces.
Pre Bonded Hair Extensions
Our Pre-bonded hair extensions are unrivalled when it comes to the minimum length as they require a hair length of 2 inches (5cm) to be correctly fused. Hot fusion strands merge perfectly with short hair as tapes, clips, and loops are not needed in their installation. Keratin extensions are applied using a heat connector. Pre-bonded extensions are the best method for short hair as the bonds are so small and discreet.
You have plenty of freedom to transform your hair from short to medium/long with the help of professionals. If your hair is short, we recommended a length of at least 2-inch (5 cm) in order to install your hair extensions correctly and for them to feel comfortable (3 to 5 inches minimum length would be ideal). How long your hair should be for the hair extensions depends on the extension type. The most commonly used hair extensions for short hair are pre-bonded, tapes, or clip-in extensions.
